Family-Themed Writing Contest
Prize:
Three $100 first-place prizes (with publiation) and three $50 second-place prizes
Family plays a huge role in our lives.
Family in all its forms––from biological or adopted family to metaphoric family; from the family we actually have to the family relationships we might long for; from family as routine and well-known to family as mystery (perhaps a mystery from past); and from family that fills a holiday table to family consisting of a pair. Send us your poems, short stories, and creative nonfiction around this theme.
Under the Madness Magazine will post a prompt each Friday on Instagram during September, October, and part of November. Each Friday, we'll announce that week's winning piece (voting will happen through an Instagram poll).
Step#1: You have a week to post your original submission: poem, fiction, or creative nonfiction. Work that has previously appeared anywhere else (including social media) is not eligible. We strongly recommend giving your post a title!
Step#2: When you post, indicate the genre and whether it's an excerpt or a full micro (200 words or less) piece.
Step#3: Sit back and enjoy other people's post submissions!
In November, the editorial team will select six of these Instagram writers:
$100 first-place poetry prize (and publication in Issue 8)
$100 first-place fiction prize (and publication in Issue 8)
$100 first-place creative nonfiction prize (and publication in Issue 8)
$50 second-place poetry prize
$50 second-place fiction prize
$50 second-place creative nonfiction prize
If you have questions about this opportunity, email us at underthemadnessmagazine.com. We look forward to hearing about your families!
