The sakura tree [JAPAN]

Myra Mehta
Imagine waking up and going to your balcony to see everything is covered in light pink sakura blossoms.
In March sakura is very common in Japan
Most people come to visit during March and April.
But March is special to me in different ways.
Not only is it gorgeous outside but the weather is perfect.
It's not too hot and not too cold. It's perfect.
There are pink flowers everywhere! Not just on the trees but on the grounds as well.
I love going on bike rides drifting through the sakuras as if I'm floating in them.
In March Japan goes crazy! Everything changes!
All the public park areas are covered with people in kimonos
Kimono is Japanese traditional Japanese clothing
A lot of girls and boys take photoshoots underneath the beautiful sakura trees.
When I was about 8 years old my family and I also took a kimono photoshoot. I loved it!
Going into the local 7-11 everything is cherry blossom flavored, even the ice cream.
But my favorite part about March is the picnics with my family
Everyone gathers around one tree and we set down a pink mat and everyone eats
The moment I sat down with my family I let out a huge sigh. I'm super grateful to have them here. Underneath a really pretty tree.
After lunch, we go our own separate ways:
My mom goes to read a book and enjoy some peace and quiet.
My dad, brother, and I go to play some volleyball.
And we end the day eating sakura-flavored ice cream and having enjoying our favorite game,
Monopoly
Myra Mehta is a thirteen-year old girl currently in the seventh grade. Myra was born in India and raised in Japan. She goes to the American School In Japan, also known as ASIJ. She loves to play Soccer and Volleyball. They are her favorite sports. She once remembers baking with her Mom. It was a failure. She didn't know that in the future she would be a great baker. Her family and her would go on trips almost every summer. Those were the most memorable experiences for her. Going on trips taught her so much; Maldives was her favorite trip by far. Being in the ocean reminded her of summer and took all her stress and worries away. Myra loves to write. She has said that her favorite stage in writing was drafting because “you can put your whole mind into it, then you can edit it."
