i notice a new freckle every time i see
you
glisten in the sunlight.
your exterior is hard
but
inside i know you are soft.
peridot or jade could never compare to
you
with the beauty of the Earth.
we both know i'm starving
but
i'd like to put that aside and admire
you
just a little longer.
i say i love you
but
you turn away with wet tears forming.
why so sour?
you
want to be sweet.
you say you love me too
but
you don’t want to be hurt.
i never know what to expect when i take a bite of
you
lingering on my tongue.
i need another taste
but
when I get close you pull away.
remember the vineyard?
you
were pure as daylight.
i remember those days like it was yesterday
but
do you?
i kiss your bruises and hold
you
as if today was our last.
your green eyes gazed into mine lovingly
but
that only made things more impossible.
i know what i have to do and i know
you
are sure of our fate too.
i never wanted to hurt you
but
i sunk my teeth in regardless.
gorgeous
gushing
green
grape.
